4 places for meals with kids in Singapore

Since we‘ve had children, our food experience on holidays has changed a lot. These days, it includes more eating in, ordering take away or looking for restaurants with play areas. During our trip, we did manage to find some places that we as well as our kids enjoyed. They might not be the most fancy places, often the food was good to great but not amazing, yet they were a compromise for our whole family and gave us adults a few moments of quiet to enjoy our meal with the kids occupied. Here‘s a list of our favourite places:

  • GENKI SUSHI: this place was recommended by a Singaporean mother living in Switzerland. Our son absolutely wanted to „ride on the sushi train“. We had a hard time explaining to him that that was not possible - but as soon as he saw the sushi train bring us our dishes and was allowed to push the button to send it back to the kitchen, he was happy and entertained for the rest of the evening. Ordering food was very convenient with the app, they brought us a high chair for the baby as well as cutlery for the kids and we enjoyed the sushi. Our son loves corn and rice, so having those two combined in a sushi was all that he needed for his dinner!

  • CARROTSTICKS & CRAVINGS (Dempsey branch): we had brunch at this place on a weekend morning and it was surprisingly quiet. The outside sitting area is cosy, with a big area for kids to run around, drive in little cars and jump on the trampoline. Food was delicious and the sugarfree pancakes were ideal to feed our 7-month old baby who always wants to eat what we are eating.

  • LITTLE SPOT: we had lunch at this café close to the children‘s gardens in the Botanic Gardens. The food was simple and good, with an all-day breakfast option for kids including toast, eggs, beans and a drink. I had an avocado salmon toast which was yummy, though I didn’t eat much of the avocado as our baby kept screaming to have it. The place offered crayons for kids to draw as well as some books, which my son really enjoyed. Any place that offers a couple of children‘s toys or books is definitely always a hit for us and makes the waiting time for food so much more fun!

  • MARCHE: at some point after 2 weeks in Singapore we usually crave Western food. As our baby had been a bit sick, we decided to head to Marché for dinner as it was close to our hotel, and I had read it had a play area for kids. Our son really enjoyed himself, playing with the Brio train tracks, climbing around the indoor play area and having fun with other kids. It was the kind of meal where our son just couldn’t wait to finish eating because all he wanted was to go and play - which means that us adults got some time to eat quietly, have a chat and just relax for a moment. The food is fine, the choice is quite big, though for Singapore standards, we find it a bit pricy. And as a Swiss, I still have to admit that eating Rösti with sour cream seems quite odd to me. But I would definitely come back just to have a quiet meal while the kids are happily entertained.
