The Back to Work Voice Notes

A 3-month online programme to discover your needs and desires as a mother and support you in feeling more empowered in the workplace, through flexible 1:1 coaching via voice note and messaging on your own time.

On this journey together, we will discover what your mom superskills are and how you can use them in your workplace. We will unpick your values and needs in this season of life and create ways for you to return to your workplace knowing EXACTLY what it is that you’d like to achieve in your career - be it a new job, a promotion, more responsibility - or the courage to voice out the desire to stay at home with your child a little longer.

As a working mom, life is always busy! There is so much going on in your day-to-day life that you struggle to keep up with your to do lists. The mental load is real - and at the same time, you are giving all you have to look after the tiny human(s) that are so dependable on you. There’s always some laundry and/or dirty dishes to be done and the last time you actually did something for yourself was too long ago.

The last thing on your mind right now is your paid employment, your career - you are focusing on being there for your child, trying to soak up the little moments of joy and hoping that you find the patience to stay calm and confident in all the lovely and challenging situations that motherhood throws at you.

With so much going on in your life, there is often little space to think about yourself, what you’d really want, how going back to paid employment will look like for you and your family - and how you’d like it to look like! It’s a problem for later - something you’ve pushed aside because you don’t have the time to deal with it right now.

You are not alone! I’ve been there too. I remember being in the baby bubble the first 6 months of my boys’ lives, just focusing on them and their needs, not stopping to look after myself, to rest enough, to fill up my cup so that I had the energy to show up for them. I remember the sleepless nights, the feeling that I didn’t even know how to make lunch for us all on the days I was alone with 2 little ones.

And I remember going from that baby bubble straight back into the workplace, without any proper transition. One day I was on maternity leave and spent the whole day with my child, and the next I was back behind my desk. What I expected to be a smooth transition was anything but smooth - my team had changed, my tasks had changed, but most importantly, I had changed. I was not the same person I had been the last time I sat behind that desk, because I had become a mother (again). (Read more about my experience going back to paid employment here and here)

Since then, so many mothers have told me about their similar experiences: not really knowing who they were anymore, feeling lost in their workplace and pressured to “perform” the same way they had before even if they worked less hours and earned less salary.

Reflecting on who I was, on my personal values and the life that I wanted for myself, for my family, has been a key element to getting me through this transition in my life. I believe that mothers can thrive in the workplace if they are in the right place. But how can you know you are in the right place if you don’t know what it is that you really want?

I’ve created the Back to Work Framework to guide mothers through this process - either before they return to work after maternity leave (be that 4 months, 6 months, a year or even several years) or in the year after returning to their paid employment.

The 5 steps of the framework:

  • Embracing the Motherhood Journey: In this first step, I will meet you where you are at right now. We will look at the different parts of your life, how much time they are currently taking up and where your energy goes. We’ll dive into your values and you’ll know exactly what is essential to you.

  • Dare to Dream: Once we’ve defined where you are at, we will zoom out to the bigger picture. This step is about dreaming and dreaming big! What are your hopes and dreams? Where would you like to be in 2, 5, 10 years? How does your ideal life look like as a mother?

  • Your Work Reality: In the third step, we’ll look at your current work reality. We’ll unpick the good and the bad and look into what you’d like to change and what you are able to change realistically by taking into account all the factors of your life.

  • Habits, Routines and Letting Go: Motherhood is a big transition in our lives. We will acknowledge this and at the same time reflect on what we need to let go of right now. We will look at your current habits and routines and see how they can support you in achieving your goals.

  • Looking after ourselves as a mother: The last step - but in my opinion the most important one! How often do we forget to look after ourselves when life gets busy and our children need us so much in the first years of their lives. Together we will look at what works for you and your family in the season of life that you are in to find ways for you to look after yourself and avoid pouring from an empty cup.

In 3 months, I will take you from feeling lost, overwhelmed by everything that comes with a life as a working mother, unsatisfied with your current work situation but not sure why to discovering yourself as a mother, knowing exactly what it is that you want in your work and family life, daring to dream big and having a clear set of action steps that will move you closer to those big goals.

What’s included:

  • 1:1 coaching via voice notes and messaging for 3 months. Message me whenever you have a moment, while your baby is having a nap, after the kids go to sleep, while they are happily playing for 5 mins, on the your way to the office or during your lunch break.

  • A series of worksheets for each step of the framework.

  • A weekly check-in to celebrate your wins and set your intentions for the new week.

We will work together for 3 months and go through the Back to Work Framework step by step. You will choose the app you’d like to work on (Whatsapp, Voxer, Telegram or Slack) and I’ll set us up. You can message me anytime you have a free moment with whatever is on your mind. I will check in 4 days a week (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat) and coach you through the different steps of the framework. This programme is designed to fit into your busy life so that you can get the benefits of 1:1 coaching tailored to your own needs without having to organise any childcare or fix regular appointments into your already packed schedule.

For each step of the framework, I’ll upload a series of exercises and tools for you to go through in your own time. Drop me a voice note when you are stuck or brain dump anything that comes to your mind. This space is YOUR space and I will always be on the other side to listen to what is on your mind and walk you towards feeling more confident and empowered as a working mom.

About me

My name is Lynn and I’m a qualified life coach supporting mothers by offering them a space to reflect and decide on their next step(s) forward to feel more confident and empowered in their parenthood journey. I’m also a communications and media specialist with nearly 15 years of experience in journalism and politics.

I’m a a mum of two little boys. For over 13 years now I’ve called Switzerland my home, after growing up in Luxembourg and studying in France and the UK.

Becoming a mum has changed my daily life, but also my goals and dreams. My priorities have shifted and first and foremost, I want to set my sons an example of what I want them to learn: to follow their dreams and work for them. This is why I have decided to set up my coaching business to help parents find their priorities when going through this fundamental transition in life.
